Atticus was a former 4-H steer (neutered bull) that was rescued from slaughter by a kind-hearted author.  

Named after the central character in To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus spent some time boarding at a farm in northwestern Pennnsylvania with other cows that were all eventually sent to the slaughterhouse.   Left alone, Atticus continually escaped to the farm across the street to be in the company of other cows.   His frequent breakouts proved to be too much for his caretakers to handle, prompting the move to Chenoa Manor.

Atticus now lives happily with his adopted family of Andrew, Teacake, Olivia & Hazel.
