National Organizations Respond to Chenoa Manor Utility Crisis

PETA, HSUS, NAVS provide emergency funds as Chenoa Manor experiences a total loss of electricity, water, and telephone service during September outage

On an otherwise typical Sunday morning in September 2006, the residents of Chenoa Manor quickly discovered a not-so-typical problem: the sanctuary was without electricity, water, or telephone service.  Appropriate crews were dispatched and, by the end of the day, utilities were temporarily restored.  The following morning, additional crews were back on the scene to begin excavation and repairs on a defective underground utility line.

While the crisis created quite a stir for our animal residents, there was a far more serious issue: huge invoices for emergency repairs. In the true spirit of camaraderie and compassion, a few special friends came to Chenoa Manor's rescue with generous donations to help cover the costs associated with our utility crisis.

Ingrid Newkirk & Sara Chenoweth of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals immediately came to our aid, providing an emergency donation within twenty-four hours. While others were considering what they could do to assist our animal residents, PETA provided rapid response. Heidi Prescott and Julia Peirce Marston, representing the Humane Society of the United States, were another dynamic duo who secured funds for a contribution.  Chenoa Manor's own volunteer extraordinaire, Maryanne Appel, also made a special donation.  Last, but not least, the National Anti-Vivisection Society generously offered to cover the remainder of our expenses, extending their compassion well beyond the bounds of their organization's primary focus.

Although it's business as usual at the farm today, our situation would be far different if not for the kindness and generosity of these individuals and their corresponding organizations.  From all of us at Chenoa Manor Animal Sanctuary, thank you!
