“‘THANK YOU’ is the best prayer anyone can say”- Alice Walker

Chenoa Manor wishes to express gratitude & thanks to:

Girl Scout Cadette Troop 49 – Girls Scouts of Chesapeake Bay.  They put in hours of hard work to create some lovely structures for many of the manor’s residents; specifically a chicken coop & a shelter for our pot-bellied pig crew: Hernando, Margot, Gladys, & Gino. You can see more of their hard work in the gallery below.

WHAT WE’RE BUZZING ABOUT

LUSH. Fresh, handmade cosmetics for women and men that are fun, ethical, funky & sensual. They support charity work & involve no animals in their products.

Charlie Was a Sinner. This hip, edgy Midtown bar and cafe just happens to have a vegan menu & a chic, welcoming vibe.

DOWN THE GARDEN PATH

The Canada geese are heading south; the groundhogs are heading into their burrows; and our recently planted garlic is nestled in its garden beds…….and we love our garlic! Under the tutelage of Adam, a beloved steward of the Manor, our volunteers planted dozens of garlic cloves to brew under the soil for their eventual eruption next Spring. And why not garlic?  Historically, its use has been documented by all major civilizations…from Egyptians to Babylonians to Romans. And the health benefits of garlic have recently been documented:

The daily addition of garlic can significantly decrease the number of days sick with a cold by up to 60%;

Adding up to 4 cloves of garlic a day can significantly decrease high blood pressure;

Garlic is full of antioxidants which can increase the immune system’s enzymes to prevent oxidative damage (damage commonly associated with diseases like dementia & Alzheimer’s); and

Daily dosing of garlic is also known to keep vampires at bay.

So as the temperatures being to drop and we begin adding layers of clothing, let’s not forget to add the garlic to our daily diets!
